In Japan, March is 3月 (3rd moon) and is also called 弥生 (Yayoi).
The term "Yayoi" originates from the phrase "木草弥や生ひ茂る月" (kikusa iya oi shigeru tsuki), translating to "the month when plants and trees grow more and more lushly." This expression is abbreviated to "Yayoi": while "弥 (iya)" denotes "more and more" or "increasingly," "生 (oi)" signifies the sprouting or lush growth of plants and trees.
March 3rd holds special significance as 桃の節句・ひな祭り (Momo no Sekku or Hina Matsuri). During the Edo period and Shogunate era, this date was an official celebration of daughters! Families blessed with female offspring adorned their homes with Hina dolls and offered diamond-shaped rice cakes, sweet rice-flour dumplings filled with bean paste, and white sake, all while praying for the growth and happiness of their beloved daughters.
At TOWA 永遠. atelier we celebrate all daughters in the world!
