Japanese Calendar: 1月 - 睦月(Mutsuki)

By Nozomi Yokoyama |

We wish you a Happy New Year!
We appreciate your continued support for TOWA.atelier during 2024 and look forward to another wonderful year together.

In the traditional Japanese calendar, January is referred to as "Mutsuki" (睦月).
The most widely accepted origin of this name comes from "Mutsumibitsuki" (睦び月), meaning "the month of harmony." It reflects the custom of families and relatives gathering during the New Year to celebrate and foster warm, close relationships. Over time, this term evolved into the simpler "Mutsuki."

The year 2025 is the Year of the Snake (巳年).
The snake, known for shedding its skin, represents "renewal and rebirth." This year is said to be a time for fresh beginnings, akin to the season when plants start forming seeds and new life emerges. Furthermore, the character "巳" (Snake) is often associated with "実" (Fruit), symbolising a year of fruitful achievements and meaningful outcomes.

May this year bring you success, joy and new opportunities.
